These vibrant marketplaces are among the largest in Morocco and are globally renowned for their exotic charm. They offer an immersive dive into the vivacious Moroccan culture, the labyrinthine streets and stunning Riads, teeming with local craftsmen’s wares spilling from every nook and cranny.

Exploring the souks of Marrakech is a must-have experience for anyone’s Marrakech bucket list.

📍 Insider Tip: Be careful of fake imported items which are for sale in the souks. I saw plenty of scarves with ‘made in India’ labels on them. To ensure they are authentically Moroccan, try to buy directly from the artisans where you can see the items being made.

2. Discover the Blue City of Chefchaouen

Chefchaouen, famously known as Morocco’s Blue City, should undoubtedly feature on your Morocco to-do list.

This city, nestled in the heart of the Rif Mountains, is a visual feast and one of the most beautiful places in Morocco, with its buildings and streets bathed in various shades of blue. Its nickname, “The Blue Pearl”, is well-earned with the city presenting a picture-perfect backdrop that is a magnet for photographers and explorers alike.

The calming respite Chefchaouen offers from the bustling energy of Marrakech and Fez makes it a unique destination with plenty of hiking opportunities in the surrounding landscape.

Chefchaouen easily ranks among the top 10 places to see in Morocco, not just for its striking aesthetics but also for its rich history and culture. Whether you’re a seasoned traveller or a first-time visitor to Morocco, the charm and allure of Chefchaouen are simply irresistible.

3. Explore the Ancient Roman Ruins at Volubilis

As a huge fan of ancient ruin sites, I found the Roman Ruins at Volubilis to be on my must-see list. They are definitely worthy of a spot on the top 10 things to see in Morocco.

Once a prosperous city, Volubilis now stands as an emblem of the grandeur of the Roman Empire, far from its chaotic heart.

Situated near Moulay Idriss and Meknes, the ruins offer a fascinating glimpse into the past, from the intricate mosaics depicting Roman mythology to the remnants of grand buildings.

Being a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it holds significant archaeological value and is one of the best-preserved ancient sites in Morocco. Whether you’re a history buff or a casual traveller seeking unique experiences, Volubilis surely ranks high among the places to visit in Morocco.

The Majorelle Garden, also known as the Yves St Laurent Gardens, is a botanical haven nestled just outside the bustling heart of Marrakech. This garden is a fusion of Moroccan traditions and contemporary flair that once inspired the legendary fashion designer, Yves Saint Laurent.

The striking cobalt blue used throughout the garden, known as ‘Majorelle Blue’, adds to the unique charm and beauty of the place.

Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Bergé bought the Majorelle Garden in 1980 to preserve the vision of its original owner, Jacques Majorelle. After Laurent died in 2008, his ashes were scattered in the garden, further cementing his connection to this enchanting place.

The garden is a living and evolving work of art, featuring pools, fountains, and a vast selection of plants and flowers divided into different areas of palm trees, cacti, and more. Its serene ambience and striking ‘Majorelle Blue’ buildings provide an oasis of calm, making it one of the top 10 must-visit places in Morocco.
