If you’re planning a beach trip from Seville, the best way to get there is by car.
Some of the beaches are accessible by public transport.
For each of the beaches I’ve listed here, I’ve given details on how to get there by car or public transport (if available).

Seville is the capital of Andalusia, located in the southern region of Spain. The inland city is situated on the banks of the Guadalquivir River (there are no beaches on the river in Seville).
Seville borders the provinces of Huelva, Cadiz, Cordoba, and Malaga. Of these, Huelva, Cadiz and Malaga are home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Andalucia.

The nearest beach to Seville is Matalascañas in Huelva Province. It’s just over 90 kilometres from the city, or about 1 hour and 15-minute drive, so makes for an easy road trip from Seville.
This is one of the easiest day trips from Seville.
Getting From Seville to Matalascañas by Car
To get to Matalascañas from Seville, you can follow the A-49 highway west towards Huelva. Then take exit 48 for A-483 toward Almonte/P.N. Doñana and continue on the A-483 until you reach Matalascañas.

Which Is the Nearest Beach to Seville by Train?
Matalascañas can be a little challenging to do a beach day trip from Seville using public transport.
Instead, I’d suggest a different beach near Seville if you’re travelling without a car.
Cádiz is a beautiful coastal city and it’s just over 1 hour away from Seville by train. There are several trains a day leaving from Santa Justa Station.

Best Beach Towns Near Seville by Public Transport
If you’re interested in exploring more great beaches in Southern Spain and you don’t have a car, here are my recommendations of public-transport-friendly places near Seville with a beach.
- 🏖️ Cadiz: This beautiful coastal city is just over 1 hour away from Seville by train, making it a perfect day trip destination. The best beaches here are La Caleta and Playa de la Victoria.
- 🏖️ Tarifa: Located in the province of Cadiz, Tarifa is about 2 and a half hours away from Seville by bus. It’s known for its white sandy beaches and world-class windsurfing. You can also stand at the point where the Atlantic and Mediterranean Oceans meet on either side of a pier.
- 🏖️ Málaga: While not the closest beach to Seville, Málaga can still be visited on a day trip. Although there is a train service, I recommend getting the bus – it takes about the same time, and it’s cheaper. It takes about 2 and a half hours. I’d also recommend staying in Malaga for at least a night.

Matalascañas Beach, the nearest beach to Seville, is an ideal escape from the city, reachable in just over an hour.
Nestled within the Doñana National Park, this beach near Seville is a favourite among both locals and visitors. It provides a diverse range of activities including water sports, hiking, and bird-watching, making it one of the most popular beaches around Seville.

2. Chipiona and Rota Beaches
Both of these are popular Cadiz beach options.
These picturesque beaches are perfect for those seeking a tranquil beach experience. Chipiona and Rota both offer beautiful beaches with crystal clear waters, stunning views, and a laid-back atmosphere.
They are also known for great seafood restaurants and local beach bars.

Once in Rota, it’s about a 2km walk to the beach. If your connections line up, the journey should take around 2 and a half hours.

🚆Easiest Public Transport Option: From Estación de Tren Sevilla-San Bernardo take the MD 13079 to Estación de Tren Cadiz. At Cadiz Station, walk 450m to the bus. Catch the bus from Telegrafía Sin Hilos and take the M-020 towards Río Iro. Get out at Chiclana – Río Iro. Playa de Sancti Petri beach is just a couple of minutes’ walk from there. The whole journey should take just over 2 and a half hours.

5. Punta Umbría
Punta Umbria is another great option for beaches near Seville just an hour and a half away by car. It boasts long sandy beaches and a range of water sports.
The town was once a fishing village but now has plenty of facilities, a lovely promenade and many restaurants serving food throughout the day.

6. Playa de la Victoria and Cortadura, Cadiz
These two beaches in Cadiz stand out as top favourites.
Combining sandy shores, ocean waves, and city vibes, they are conveniently located about an hour and a half drive from Seville. They are also some of the easiest beaches from Seville to get to using public transport.
The Playa de la Victoria extends over 2 kilometres and features a lively promenade adorned with restaurants, bars, and shops. In contrast, Cortadura offers a tranquil and secluded atmosphere, ideal if you’re after a more relaxed beach day.

Notably, Islantilla is renowned for its golf courses, making it an excellent choice for those seeking to mix beach relaxation with sports activities.

🚆Easiest Public Transport Option: From the Bus Station Plaza de Armas in Seville take the bus to Huelva – Felxbus do this route as one of their stops to Lisbon. Once in Huelva, change to a local bus and take the M-309 to Estacion Hosteleria V. Get off here and the beach is just a few minutes away. The whole journey is around 2 and a half hours.

8. Cala de Aceite and Coves de Roche, Cadiz
Cala de Aceite and Coves de Roche are both hidden gems near Seville. These spots are less than two hours away and are known for their pristine natural beauty.
Tucked between lush green forests and rocks, the beach offers a serene and private ambience. It’s an excellent location for swimming and snorkelling.

9. Bolonia Beach, Tarifa
Not only is this one of southern Spain’s best beaches, it’s pretty much my favourite beach in Andalucia. It’s part of a National Park, so it’s a little challenging to get to without a car.
Two things which put Bolonia Beach at the top of my list are the towering dunes that run parallel to the shore. You can climb up and take in stunning panoramic views of the entire area. It also features the Roman ruins of Baelo Claudia which the history dork in me can’t resist!

10. Zahara de los Atunes, Tarifa
This beach is famed for its stunning scenery and untouched natural charm, making it an ideal location for unwinding and basking in the sun.

⏰ Approximate time to get there by car: About 2 hours
🚆Easiest Public Transport Option: No ideal route. This beach is slightly further north of Bolonia Beach, so like I mentioned for getting there, your best option would be to catch the bus from Plaza de Armas to Estación de Autobuses de Tarifa. Once there take a taxi to Zahara de los Atunes.
📍 Unique features: Zahara de los Atunes is renowned for its expansive sandy beaches, pristine waters, and small beach town ambience.
👉 Insider Tip: Both Bolonia Beach and Zahara de los Atunes are close to Tarifa however, they can be challenging to get to if you don’t have a car. Don’t panic! Tarifa also has a fantastic beach – Playa de Los Lances and Playa de Los Bateles. It’s a popular beach spot for windsurfing and kiteboarding. Make sure to check it out if you’re feeling adventurous!
AND if you have more time – and I 100% recommend it. Stay in Tarifa for a night, and then you can catch the ferry over to Morocco. You can actually see North Africa from Tarifa. The crossing takes around 90 minutes, so you can easily visit and get back in one day or book one of the guided tours.
Other Beach Towns Near Seville for a Weekend Break
If you’re planning to travel around Seville at all, then there are plenty of other beach destinations near Seville which are better kept for a weekend break particularly if you head to the Costa del Sol, which is where you’ll find some of the best beaches in the south of Spain.

- 🏖️ Malaga: One of the best beach cities in Spain, Malaga is known for its long beaches. It’s perfect if you want a beach break that combines culture and nightlife.
- 🏖️ Marbella: Marbella is one of the more glamorous options on this list and boasts beautiful beaches, luxury hotels, and top-notch restaurants. Marbella, and the surrounding area, is also home to some of the most famous golf courses in the world.
