Start Planning Your Trip Today!

Hey, I’m Becki — solo traveller, adventure-seeker, and ancient ruins nerd.

I’ve travelled to over 60 countries (though I’ve honestly lost count), mostly on my own and always chasing the kind of experiences you don’t find in a brochure. I’ve hiked up volcanoes, wandered through crumbling temples, road-tripped across continents, and had more wildlife encounters than I can count — some planned, some not!

At some point, my friends started calling me Lara Croft — not entirely unfair, given my tendency to say yes to things like jungle treks and temple hunting.

Meet Me In Departures is where I share everything I’ve learnt about travelling independently, slowly, and ethically. If you love planning your own trips, hate following the crowds, and want your adventures to mean something, you’re in the right place.

On the blog, you’ll find DIY itineraries, packing tips, travel planning guides, and stories from the road — all written with solo explorers in mind.

If that sounds like your kind of trip, stick around — you’re in good company.

Travel Resources I Actually Use

If you’re into planning your own trips, here’s where I keep all the handy stuff — from gear I pack every time, to the tools I use to book transport, stay safe, and travel smarter.

Country Focus

Most Popular Destinations

I’ve travelled all over the world, but Spain, Morocco and Portugal are where I know best. I’ve lived in southern Spain for years, and with the others just a short hop away, I’ve had loads of time to explore properly — not just tick things off.

These spots are packed with ancient sites, wild landscapes and the kind of real, immersive travel experiences that are perfect if you like to do things your own way.

A photo of a woman wearing a purple top and black head scarf. She is carrying two bags of produce and walkting though the streets of Fes in Morocco.

Morocco

Morocco’s one of those places that sticks with you — a bit wild, a bit chaotic, and full of proper adventure. I’ve put together loads of tips to help you plan your own trip, from desert hikes to city wanderings (and everything in between).

Spain

Spain’s so much more than beaches and big cities. After living in the south for years, I’ve found loads of spots that most people miss — think hilltop villages, ancient ruins, epic hikes, and proper local experiences.

A view of the Alhambra in Granada, Spain. The fortress sits on a hill top, surrounded by trees and with houses in the bottom of the valley. You can see the Sierra Nevada mountains in teh background. I took this photo from Albaicin District at sunrise.
The rooftop turrets at the Cathedral of Evora in Portugal. This was took on a crisp winters morning and has a bright blue sky and sun casting strong shadows.

Portugal

Portugal’s great for DIY travel — easy to get around, packed with history, and full of hidden corners worth exploring. I’ve pulled together everything from relaxed road trips to off-the-radar towns that are perfect for slow adventures.
